How to Choose a Currency Counting Machine

Quick answer: Start with what you count. One denomination at a time: a loose-note counter with UV and MG (from ₹8,500). Mixed cash: a mixed-value counter with UV, MG, MT and IR (₹16,000–₹18,500). Foreign currency or serial numbers: a dual-CIS machine (₹35,000+). Sealed bundles: a bundle counter. Then check capacity, speed and local service.

1. What do you count, and how much?

Write down a typical day: how many notes, which denominations, whether they come mixed, and whether you handle foreign currency. A shop counting a few hundred notes of one value has very different needs from a petrol pump receiving thousands of mixed notes.

2. Loose-note or mixed-value?

A loose-note counter counts how many notes you load. You sort the notes first and multiply by the denomination. A mixed-value counter recognises every denomination, so you load a mixed bundle and it shows the total amount and how many notes of each value. If you receive mixed cash every day, a mixed-value counter saves the most time. See the four machine types compared.

3. How much fake note detection do you need?

Basic machines check UV and MG. Better machines add MT (security thread) and IR (infrared), and dual-CIS machines compare an image of each note. If you handle large amounts of ₹500 and ₹200 notes, choose at least UV, MG, MT and IR. Read fake note detection explained.

4. Speed and capacity

Most desktop counters run at over 1,000 notes per minute. More important in daily use is the hopper (how many notes you can load at once, typically 200 to 500) and the stacker (how many it holds after counting). A bigger hopper means fewer reloads.

5. Extra features worth paying for

  • External display so the customer can see the count
  • Serial number reading and printing for banks and forex desks
  • PC or printer connection for reports and software updates
  • Batch function to stop at 100 notes for bundling

6. Service and spare parts

A counting machine works every day, so local service matters as much as the price. Check who will repair it, how fast, and whether an annual maintenance contract is available. Real Group services machines across Goa.

Questions about this topic

For small volumes of one denomination, a basic UV and MG counter is fine. If you handle large or mixed amounts, spending more on MT and IR detection and mixed-value counting usually pays for itself in time saved and fakes caught.

Over 1,000 notes per minute is standard. Hopper size and ease of use affect daily speed more than the headline speed.
